The Telescope and The Microscope

Properties of Light, lenses and Prisms

This program is an exploration of the very nature of Light and Vision, starting with Isaac Newton's earliest exploration of "Opticks." We will work through the Scientific study of light, to two practical applications of refraction and reflection- the Telescope and the Microscope. Both of which, have become icons of Science itself and which have fundamentally changed our view of the world and our place in it.

Scientific Principles

  • Observing Light
  • Diffraction
  • Reflection
  • Refraction
  • Lenses
  • Modern understanding of Light as Electromagnetic Emissions
  • Wave vs. Particle
  • The Full-Spectrum of EM waves.
